Young Birds Bath

Young Birds Bath

image

We’ve been having some great weather here in Utah.  On Sundays I like to put out bath water for the racing pigeons.  The young birds love it.  I add a little Virkon S and Borax to the water.  The pigeons always look spectacular when the dry off and I never had a problem with lice or mites.

Loft Update 04/29/2012

Loft Update 04/29/2012

Another week has passed by very quickly.  My Racing Pigeons took a back seat to life again.  I had really good intentions on getting my traps and aviaries built this week.  Instead, I took the kids from Soccer Games, to Dance Practice, to Tee Ball Practice, then to Soccer Games etc….  Also had to deal with a death in the family and attend a funeral for my cousin.  So there’s more excuses but I’ve got to get it done.

Health Problems

Health Problems

I found a sick pigeon last night when I went went out to clean the loft.  This bird was lying a bit on it’s side and couldn’t use it’s legs.  Still looked alert, eyes looked good, and it felt like it was a bit light when I picked it up.  This bird and 3 or 5 others I’ve noticed will sit with puffed out feathers at times and I have been a bit concerned about that but was hoping it ...

What to Feed Racing Pigeons

What to Feed Racing Pigeons

Optimum nutrition to maximize performance.   There are many different opinions on what is best to feed a racing pigeon.  There are a lot of different seed mix and pellet options, mixes, additives and “secrets” out there.  I’ve read about many and there are many that I am not yet aware of.

There has been some successful racers who have switched to the Purina NutriBlend Pigeon Feed.  This is a great concept and there is a lot of science behind Purina ...
