Saturday’s race from Spencer, ID was 223.335 miles to my loft. To date this is the longest I have flown any of my pigeons. I sent 14 birds to the race and there were 9 lofts and 189 pigeons participating. This was a tough race! The release was delayed for an hour due to weather concerns. I waited and waited for the birds to return. This week, my Wife joined me outside which was nice for her to show some interest.
After over 5 hours of flying, I finally had a pigeon come in as a single drop. It was 4433, this bird continues to set itself apart as my “best bird”. I didn’t have another bird trap for almost a full half hour. When I received notice that it was time for knock off, I only had 5 birds back. Results were bad for the entire club. Only 66 birds out of the club’s 189 sent for the race returned.
4433 made good enough time for 4th place! I was very happy with that. My next bird was 965 which came in at 26th place. We’ll get the combine results later this week. Hopefully that 26th place will squeak into the top 10% of the combine.
I had a few more come back but still only 8 of 14 sent. My team is very small now. Really hope to get some more back from this race.
