Young Birds Bath

Young Birds Bath

image

We’ve been having some great weather here in Utah.  On Sundays I like to put out bath water for the racing pigeons.  The young birds love it.  I add a little Virkon S and Borax to the water.  The pigeons always look spectacular when the dry off and I never had a problem with lice or mites.

Racing Pigeons Young Birds Update

Racing Pigeons Young Birds Update

I’ve had my young birds flying both in the AM and PM each day for several weeks.  They are flying very well.  They are almost all through the moult now and the birds that I pulled flights on have grown them back about 60%.  These racing pigeons are looking spectacular.  Two Saturdays ago I got up early to fly the birds and was hoping they were routing.  I shot the following video and ended up disappointed that they didn’t route.   ...

Loft Update 05/07/2012

Loft Update 05/07/2012

new aviary pigeon trap and for loftI finally got a little bit more done on the new pigeon loft over the weekend.  I purchased a few things to finish the interior walls, installed some vents up high near the peak of the roof on both ends, and got one of the traps started.  Hopefully through this week I can get ...

Loft Update for 04/22/2012

I’ve moved my second round of young birds into the loft during the last week.  All of my pigeons seem to be doing really well and quite healthy.  I’ve been quite lucky thus far and I have been able to keep good health in the loft.  I attribute this partially to the use of Foy’s Pigeon Builder in the water 3 to 4 times a week.  I am very happy with the results from this ...

K Factor For Dummies

K Factor For Dummies

Solar Flares, Geomagnetic Storms, Solar Winds, Radio Atmospheric Disturbances and Electromagnetic Radiation are all interesting topics for the scientist, physicist, and astronomer.  Should I as a Pigeon Racer and Fancier be concerned about such big scientific words?  The answer is…  possibly.

In addition to visual landmarks, it is believed that a pigeon relies on the Earth’s magnetic fields to navigate home.  High levels of solar activity can distort the Earth’s magnetic fields and confuse a pigeon’s homing ability.  There is a ...

Clausing Houbens

Clausing Houbens

I began my quest last year to find the best birds I could afford.  Which as it turns out, isn’t much.  I have an average job, a house, 5 young kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 car payments etc…  That doesn’t leave a lot of play money to invest in my pigeons.  I was/am looking for birds that could win in the local club races and also do well in one loft races.  I kept coming back to one particular ...

Spring Break 300 01-09-2012

Spring Break 300 01-09-2012

They took the pigeons to 35.517 miles (Kanosh) again today.  Birds were released in the afternoon which is a change from their normal routine.  Once again they released all the birds together.  This time my birds did not perform well.  42992 was all the way at the back again.  They got more time on the wing that the earlier birds (trying to tell myself that’s a good thing).  I am also glad to have all of my birds still in ...

Spring Break 300 12-31-2011

Spring Break 300 12-31-2011

Another training toss this morning at the Spring Break Race.  This has been really fun to see the reports as they train over 500 birds.  Also fun to see my birds race against some of the top lofts in the World.  Some of these Lofts are doing very well in the South Africa Million Dollar Pigeon Race.  I should probably be happy if my birds can finish in the top 50% against great birds from Mike Ganus, Richard Banzon, Alex ...

Spring Break 300 12-28-2011

Spring Break 300 12-28-2011

Another trainer from 35 miles today.  I received an email from the race organizers explaining that these first few trainers are being released in 3 different groups approximately 10 minutes apart.  What that means is, I really can’t take much from these training tosses not knowing what group my birds were released in.  However, 42991 would have obviously been in the first group and that bird did well again.  I like to see that!   Hopefully that bird continue to ...
