I had a terrible day of flying the birds today. Maybe they got a good workout, or maybe I’m making more rooking mistakes I don’t know. Either way, I’m not real happy with today’s results.
This morning I released the birds at 7:03am and the timer had the first bird trap at 7:56am. This was a speed of 811.6588 yards/min (YPM). The distance back to the loft is 24.442 miles on this toss. Very poor speed, I felt like I wanted to see some better performance out of the birds, so I took them back out this evening.
I went back to a familiar spot for the birds. My 50 mile (54.112) toss point. I wanted to get there earlier so they could make it back before dark. Only problem was that instead, they were battling the heat. I released the birds at 5:06pm. The temperature was about 86 degrees. Fairly hot, but not as hot as it has been. My first bird didn’t trap until 7:05pm. A very slow return with a speed of 800.3119 yards/min (YPM). They all had mud on their feet so they definitely stopped off for a break on the way home.
Not sure what my game plan for the rest of the week will be, but I’ll give them a break in the morning. To top it off, there is still 3 birds out. (Discouraged)
